What is STEAM Education?
STEAM education fosters "the power to live in the future
Why Craftsman Afterschool offers a wide variety of programs
STEAM education is an educational method originating in the United States that combines "Science," "Technology," "Engineering," "Art," and "Mathematics" to foster the ability to think, create, and communicate. Its history is relatively new, having been proposed in the 1990s.
Craftsman After School has developed a unique program based on this STEAM approach that combines school-age children with learning.

List of Power and Programs Cultivated at Craftsman
1. Calligraphy: "Japanese beauty" that cultivates concentration and a sense of beauty
Time spent facing the written word helps children develop a sense of calmness and concentration.
They can also naturally learn the subtleties of Japanese culture from the way they handle a brush and their manners.
The children will develop a sense of beauty, mental concentration, and expression.
2. Soroban】Polish the foundation of logic, speed, and calculation skills.
Cultivate the ability to memorize images and become a "number-conscious" child.
By learning repeatedly, students can experience the results of their efforts.
Mathematics and Logic (Mathematical thinking and calculation skills)
3. Inquiry activities: The ability to face questions that have no correct answers
In "Inquiry Activities," for example, students are asked questions such as, "How can we make tools that are easy to use? How can we use natural forms in design? For example, "How can we make tools that are easy to use?
This is a time when all elements of STEAM education are combined through trial and error, hypothesis and verification, observation and discovery.
The power to grow: Problem Solving ability
4. Digital Craft Class] Explosion of creativity through 3D printer and modeling!
Using modeling software such as TinkerCAD, students can give shape to their ideas in 3D.
The class will develop the ability to enjoy trial-and-error and technological literacy through an integrated process up to the printing process.
The ability to develop: Technology, Engineering, and Creativity (conceptualization and execution skills)
5. English] Listen and speak naturally. Learn while you play.
Through daily conversation with native speakers, games, and English picture books, we value the feeling of "English is fun! through daily conversation with native speakers, games, and English picture books.
We will eliminate any sense of resistance to English and help students acquire basic English skills. Because they are not forced to immerse themselves in English, they will feel familiar with English.
Power to grow: Language and Communication (Language and Expression)
6. Color Education: Deepen understanding of self and others by looking at the movement of the mind.
Through the use of color, we nurture the ability to understand one's own feelings and those of others.
This program naturally nurtures non-cognitive abilities (emotional understanding and empathy) through play.
Nurturing Skills: Art, Emotional Intelligence (Sensitivity and Self-Expression)
Craftsman's STEAM is "line, not dot" learning
Craftsman offers these programs not in "pieces" but in combination along the child's growth axis.
For example...
- A child who has become emotionally expressive through color education communicates his/her feelings in English
- The concentration skills acquired through abacus are put to good use during quiet time in calligraphy
- The "I did it!" experience gained through digital crafts is transformed into self-confidence. The experience gives them confidence and leads them to the next challenge.
Each activity creates a "line of learning" that leads to the future.
Why STEAM now?
In the age of AI, it is not just about knowledge and memorization,
It is required to have "the ability to think, create, and collaborate with others by oneself.
At Craftsman, we nurture this ability through hands-on experience while having fun.
The accumulation of small "I did it! will eventually lead to great confidence and growth.
We are now accepting trial applications! See and feel first!
